Acuvue contact lenses from Johnson & Johnson Vision Care were the first soft and disposable contact lenses in the world launched in 1987 and has since become one of the best known contacts brands.

Acuvue comes in daily, weekly, silicone hydrogel and monthly replacements. Branded Acuvue lenses all contain a high level of UV blocking. Acuvue Oasys, Acuvue Advance and Acuvue Advance for Astigmatism received the World Council of Optometry's Seal of Acceptance for UV-absorbing contact lenses in 2007.

The daily disposable lens 1 Day Acuvue (discontinued 2013) has seen technological improvements result in several iterations of the lens, each improving the wearing experience for consumers. The successor, 1 Day Acuvue Moist, introduced a moisture rich ingredient to provide greater comfort for longer wear. 1 Day Acuvue TruEye was the first daily silicone hydrogel lens introducing a technology that allows more oxygen through the contact lens into the cornea. Johnson & Johnson extended silicone hydrogel technology to weekly lenses in combination with advances in moisture retention. Acuvue Advance lenses employs Hydraclear, a moisture-rich wetting agent. Acuvue Oasys lenses features an improvement of this technology, named Hydraclear Plus. Johnson & Johnson also developed toric lenses specifically for contact lens wearers suffering from astigmatism, available in both daily (1 Day Acuvue Moist for astigmatism) and weekly (Oasys for astigmatism, Advance for astigmatism) replacements.

Lens users wearing Acuvue lenses are loyal to their brand, which indicates that Acuvue lenses are of good quality. The first Acuvue lens from 1987 has been discontinued. Surevue, Acuvue 2 and Acuvue Bifocal, however, have been available almost as long and are still used by many lens wearers.
