Two Weekly Contact Lenses

Typically designed for fortnightly wear, these contact lenses provide 14 consecutive days of clear and comfortable vision. All that's needed to make sure you get the most from your lenses is a simple cleaning and storing routine.

Over the course of the day, it's easy for debris or dirt to build up on the lens surface, which can lead to blurry vision and slight discomfort. Regularly cleaning your lenses with a multipurpose solution and storing them in a contact lens case keeps them working their best for the entire two weeks.

Remember not to wear your weekly contact lenses for more than a fortnight after you've removed them from the packaging, even if you do keep them in solution. They're only designed to last for 14 consecutive days so using them for any longer could make your eyes uncomfortable and susceptible to harmful bacteria.

Two-weekly contact lenses are soft contact lenses worn daily and replaced every 14 days. You remove them each night, clean and store them in fresh contact lens solution, and reuse the same pair for up to two weeks. The main two-weekly range at Vision Direct is Acuvue Oasys with HydraLuxe Plus, one of the UK's most widely prescribed contact lenses. Two-weekly lenses sit between daily disposables and monthly lenses on cost and convenience.

Yes. Acuvue Oasys, the most popular two-weekly lens at Vision Direct, uses HydraLuxe Technology designed to mimic the natural tear film and reduce lens-related dryness. It's one of the most recommended lenses for wearers who experience dryness, particularly those spending long hours on screens. The two-weekly replacement cycle also means lenses are replaced before significant deposit build-up, which can help maintain comfort compared to monthly lenses worn to the end of their cycle.

Two-weekly lenses require nightly cleaning and storage in a lens case with fresh contact lens solution. Place each lens in your palm, apply a few drops of multi-purpose solution, rub for around 20 seconds, rinse, and store in a clean case. Always use fresh solution and never top up the previous night's solution. Replace your lens case monthly. Hydrogen peroxide systems such as AOSEPT PLUS or EasySept are a good alternative for sensitive eyes and provide a deeper, preservative-free clean.

The main differences are replacement frequency and cost per lens. Two-weekly lenses, also known as bi-weekly contact lenses, are replaced every 14 days; monthly lenses every 30 days. Two-weekly lenses are typically slightly more expensive per lens than monthly lenses, but the shorter cycle means each pair is worn for fewer days, which some wearers find more comfortable, especially towards the end of the wearing period. The cleaning routine is the same for both. Your optician can trial both and advise based on comfort and fit.
