Air Optix contact lenses

The Air Optix range of monthly contact lenses is manufactured by global eye care specialists Alcon to provide one of the most comfortable wearing experiences. Formed from modern silicone hydrogel, Air Optix contact lenses allow up to five times more oxygen than traditional hydrogel lenses to reach the eyes. In addition, these cost-effective lenses stand out from other brands with their high water content, optimum surface moisture and convenient monthly replacement schedule (always remember to consult your optician for wearing advice).

This range guarantees healthy and clear vision throughout your day and is suitable for all wearers, including those with presbyopia, astigmatism, hyperopia (long-sightedness) and myopia (short-sightedness). An assortment of natural colour lenses is also available, allowing experimental fun with different shades while enjoying long-lasting comfort.

Air Optix is sold under Alcon (formerlly Ciba Vision). The Air Optix range of lenses are exceptionally breathable, comfortable and easy to insert.

• HydraGlyde® Moisture Matrix Technology - This technology ensures lasting moisture and wettability to retain consistent surface hydration.

• SmartShield® Technology - A design that results in smooth, frictionless hydrophilic lenses, which prevent a build-up of deposits.

• TriComfort™ Lens Technology - Creating a lens surface that is ultra-smooth and protein resistant, this technology forms a breathable lens.

History of Air Optix contact lenses

1945: Two pharmacists, Robert Alexander and William Conner open a pharmacy in Fort Worth, Texas, combining the first syllables of their last names to call it Alcon.

1980: Ciba Vision was formed.

1998: Night & Day launches, the first contact lens that can be worn for 30 consecutive days and nights.

2004: Ciba Vision launches O2 Optix (later rebranded as Air Optix), a highly breathable contact lens.

2008: Ciba Vision launches Air Optix for Astigmatism, Air Optix Aqua and Dailies AquaComfort Plus contact lenses.

2011: Alcon and Ciba Vision become one company.

2014: Alcon introduces Air Optix Colors contact lenses.

2016: Air Optix plus HydraGlyde are launched.

Air Optix monthly contact lenses from Alcon uses HydraGlyde Moisture Matrix Technology to form a persistent moisture layer on the lens surface that maintains surface hydration from morning to night. SmartShield Technology creates a layer resisting aginst lipids keeping lenses clean and clear for longer. Together these make Air Optix a strong choice for wearers wanting comfortable, deposit-resistant monthly contact lenses.

Yes. Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde is ideal for wearers who experience dryness during contact lens wear. HydraGlyde Moisture Matrix Technology continuously replenishes surface hydration throughout the day, and SmartShield Technology resists deposit buildup that can contribute to end-of-day dryness and irritation. For wearers with more significant dry eye, your optician may recommend pairing Air Optix with a compatible lubricating eye drop.

Air Optix Aqua and Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde are a like for like lens with an additional 'layer of comfort' for the Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde. This layer locks in moisture, enhancing wear throughout the day. For most wearers, particularly those who experience afternoon dryness, Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde is an ideal choice. Both are available at Vision Direct.

Air Optix monthly contact lenses are compatible with most standard multi-purpose solutions. everclear REFRESH All In One Solution is also compatible and is available exclusively at Vision Direct at a competitive price.
