Are you a big fan of winter? Cosy indoors with a blanket on the sofa or enjoy the fresh air outdoors. Whatever your plans this winter, if you wear contact lenses, you don't want to be bothered by your eyes or your contact lenses. Read on for our tips and enjoy this winter to the fullest.
Clear vision in low light
In winter, it is particularly important to see well in low light and to avoid seeing halos and glare, but problems with your vision can sometimes make that difficult. This happens, for example, if you have astigmatism.
Astigmatism means, among other things, that you can’t see lights well in the dark. For example, the headlights of cars and bicycles can look blurry, or you see rings around lights.
Astigmatism is a common eye condition. Fortunately, it is easy to correct with contact lenses or glasses. Astigmatism is also referred to as a cylindrical abnormality. The symptoms of astigmatism are blurred vision (both near and far), inability to see fine details, eyestrain, dizziness and inability to see well in the dark. If you have astigmatism, toric contact lenses offer a solution.
Bausch + Lomb ULTRA® for Astigmatism
If you are looking for toric lenses, then Bausch + Lomb ULTRA® for Astigmatism is our recommendation. This soft toric lens from the well-known manufacturer Bausch + Lomb is designed to correct astigmatism.
Bausch + Lomb ULTRA® for Astigmatism contact lenses feel comfortable on your eye all day long, so you can enjoy clear vision to the fullest.1 These lenses help reduce bothersome halos and glare which is why they are a great contact lens choice if you often drive a car in the dark.1
Whether you like to put a five-course dinner on the table for friends or prefer to keep it simple: cooking and baking are best done with contact lenses. Cooking with contact lenses is a lot better than with glasses. Because glasses can fog up when you take something out of a hot oven or when you stand over a pan of boiling water. And did you know that with contact lenses you won't suffer from watery eyes while cutting an onion? Onions cause watery eyes because cells in the onion are destroyed when the onion is cut. As soon as those cells come into contact with oxygen, certain gases are formed. These gases cause you to get a stinging sensation in your eyes and cause watery eyes. Because contact lenses are placed directly on your eye, this ensures that the gases cannot reach your eye as well, so that you do not suffer from tearing eyes.
Watching movies and reading books
Winter is of course a wonderful time to watch movies at home, cosy up on the sofa with a blanket and candles lit. Or take the time to read that book that has been on your bedside table for ages. Do you find yourself procrastinating all the time because you can't read the fine print properly? And do you also suffer from this when you read a message on your phone or small letters on a label? Then you may have presbyopia.
Most people develop presbyopia after the age of 40. Fortunately, multifocal contact lenses can offer a solution. Multifocal contact lenses allow you to see well near and far (and everything in between), without having to wear reading glasses. So, whether you want to read, write cards or send a Whatsapp message: this is all possible when you wear multifocal contact lenses.
Bausch + Lomb ULTRA® for Presbyopia
If you want to read the fine print again and be able to see everything in the distance as well, we recommend Bausch + Lomb ULTRA® for Presbyopia. Thanks to the 3-Zone Progressive DesignTM in this lens, you can enjoy comfortable, clear vision all day long, without having to wear reading glasses.2,4,5
This contact lens is ideal if you read a lot, spend a lot of time on your mobile phone and computer or whilst doing physical activities3. Even at the end of a long day, these contact lenses feel comfortable on your eyes.2,4
During this dark time, take the time to meet up with friends and family. And then, of course, wear your lenses to fully enjoy the time together because you don't want to suffer from dry eyes or burning eyes when you are out with your friends.
When you go on winter sports, it is important to protect your eyes as much as possible against harmful UV rays from the sun. You can do this with ski goggles, and with the additional protection from contact lenses with a UV filter. That way, you can whiz down the ski slope carefree! Perhaps you prefer to take it easy during winter. Even if you're not into extreme sports, contact lenses are recommended. For example, if you like to take long walks, you don't want to be bothered by fogged glasses. And if you cycle a lot, it is annoying and potentially dangerous if your glasses fog up or get wet when it rains.
New Year's resolutions
Do you have any resolutions for this year? Maybe you've decided that you're finally going to wear contact lenses instead of glasses in 2023! There are so many different types of lenses available that there is always a contact lens that suits your needs. It is best to visit your optician first. The optician will do an eye test to see what power contact lenses you need. The optician also looks at the health of your eyes. Even if you have been wearing contact lenses for a long time, it is important to visit the optician regularly. This way you will find out whether you are still wearing the correct contact lenses and whether your prescription is still correct. And whether you suffer from nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism or presbyopia: there is always a contact lens that suits your eyes!
