A day in the life of a busy contact lens wearer

Tuesday, 1 November 2022 by Vision Direct

Hey. I’m Julia. I’m 29 years old and I’ve been wearing contact lenses for years. Today I’m going to share what a busy day in my life looks like and how my contact lenses enable me to enjoy a fulfilling work and social life.

7am - Getting outdoors before work

I love to spend time outdoors in the morning before I go to work as it clears my mind and helps me feel fresh for the day. I often go for a long walk with the dog or I go for a run in the park. Because I know how important it is to protect your eyes from the sun, I always wear sunglasses in combination with contact lenses with a UV filter. This ensures that I protect my eyes against harmful UV rays from the sun. This isn’t only important in summer, by the way! This is why I wear contact lenses with a UV filter all year round.

8.30am - Driving to the office

I often work from home, but today I’m going to work from the office. I look forward to seeing colleagues and having meetings in a conference room instead of online! I regularly cycle to the office, but today I take the car. While driving, it’s of course extremely important to have a perfect view. That’s why I wear contact lenses that ensure that I have a full field of vision and see everything as clearly as possible day and night. For example, these contact lenses ensure that I do not suffer from halos around car lamps when I have to drive in the evenings.

9:30am - Hard at work

Today is busy and I spend most of my time in front of the computer writing and checking texts, preparing presentations, making plans for next year and consulting online with colleagues who are working from home. I notice that I sometimes suffer from dry eyes when I work at the computer all day. That’s why it’s so important to take regular breaks so that you are not constantly looking at a screen.

I make sure that I often go to make a cup of tea or grab a glass of water to get away from my screen. I also give my eyes a rest by sticking to the 20-20 rule: every 20 minutes I look away from my screen for 20 seconds. I then try to look into the distance and blink my eyes as well. This way you ensure that your eyes get a rest regularly. Very important if you have to look at a screen a lot! I also sometimes do eye exercises, which helps when I suffer from tired eyes.

12:30pm - Lunchtime!

It's time for lunch! Today I’m going to have lunch with the other colleagues who have travelled into the office. We’ve reserved a table at a local restaurant. The heating is quite high and some of my colleagues complain that they suffer from dry contact lenses. Fortunately, I don’t have this problem thanks to the daily contact lenses I wear.

It is important to wear contact lenses that ensure that your eyes are optimally hydrated throughout the day. This way you are less prone to suffering from dry eyes.

6:30pm - Finishing a presentation

Lunch took longer than planned, so I'm working a little later tonight. I have an important presentation tomorrow and I want to make sure I have every detail prepared. I've been wearing my contact lenses since 6:30am this morning and I still have plans for tonight, so it's important that my contact lenses feel comfortable all day long.

7.30pm - Dinner with friends

The presentation is ready, so I can finally relax! I’m meeting friends at a bar within walking distance of the office. After drinks, we go out to dinner together in a new Italian restaurant that has received raving reviews. Having dinner together and chatting with friends is the perfect way to end this busy day.

11pm - Back home

It's been a long day, but thanks to the comfortable contact lenses I wear, I've had perfect vision all day without getting dry eyes. Now it's time to take off my lenses. Because they’re daily contacts, I just throw them in the bin. I find this extremely useful because after a long day I don't have to clean my contact lenses with lens solution in the evening when I'm tired. And in the morning I grab a new pair. This way I’m sure that the contact lenses I wear every day are super clean. Since I discovered daily contact lenses, I don't want anything else. Dailies are just so convenient and hygienic!

† WARNING: UV-absorbing contact lenses are NOT substitutes for protective UV-absorbing eyewear, such as UV-absorbing goggles or sunglasses, because they do not completely cover the eye and surrounding area. The effectiveness of wearing UV-absorbing contact lenses in preventing or reducing the incidence of ocular disorders associated with exposure to UV light has not been established at this time. You should continue to use UV absorbing eyewear as directed. NOTE: Long-term exposure to UV radiation is one of the risk factors associated with cataracts. Exposure is based on a number of factors such as environmental conditions (altitude, geography, cloud cover) and personal factors (extent and nature of outdoor activities). UV-blocking contact lenses help provide protection against harmful UV radiation. However, clinical studies have not been done to demonstrate that wearing UV-blocking contact lenses reduces the risk of developing cataracts or other eye disorders.

Note: The effectiveness of wearing UV-absorbing contact lenses in preventing or reducing the incidence of ocular disorders associated with exposure to UV-light has not been established at this time.
