Why try new contact lenses if you’ve been wearing the same ones for a while?

It’s easy to get stuck into a routine with your contact lenses and keep re-ordering the same ones time after time. Many of our customers have been wearing the same contact lenses for 10 or more years, even though other lenses have drastically improved in quality since then.

The most notable improvement being daily and monthly silicone hydrogel lenses which allow more oxygen in and keep your eyes moisturised for longer; making them much more comfortable to wear.

Multifocal contact lenses are also becoming increasingly popular and Vision Direct now offers a huge range of multifocal lenses including daily multifocals. This has enabled the over 50’s to join the ever increasing 3.7 million contact lens wearers in the UK.

Switching to a newer type of contact lens, or a contact lens which is specifically designed for your type of vision problem, can help to give you greater comfort and sharper vision for longer.

Advice on changing contact lenses, from Head Optician Brendan O’Brian:

“Please ensure you talk to your optician if you have an astigmatism or any other eye problems. We obviously always recommend yearly check-ups with your optician as an eye test can reveal a lot more than poor sight.”

How do I know if I should change my contact lenses?

Here are some questions you should be asking yourself:

  • Do your lenses last all day or do your eyes feel dry and gritty by 4 or 5pm?
  • Do you want to sleep in my lenses sometimes?
  • If you wear monthlies, do you want to try dailies?
  • Are you thinking about trying coloured contact lenses?

If you’ve answered ‘Yes’ to any of the questions above, you might like to consider changing your contact lenses.

Did you know…

  • Many people are now wearing more than one type of contact lens, especially if they have a dominant eye or need multifocal lenses

  • A growing number of our customers wear coloured contact lenses. Why not order your prescription contact lenses in a different colour next time, for a bit of a change?

  • New generation contact lenses are made from Silicone Hydrogel and lenses like. Acuvue Trueye and Oasys, Biofinity and Air Optix Aqua offer unequalled comfort for up to 16 hours a day.
