Contact lens wearers often suffer from seasonal allergies during the autumn months, which can make wearing contacts more difficult. Our optician's top eye care tips will help you keep your eyes moisturised and comfortable during the cosy, colourful Autumnal months.
Dry eyes in the morning
It's common to experience dry eyes in the morning during the colder autumn months, when leaves are falling and mould spores are in the air. Many of our customers find that using intensive gel eye drops just before they go to sleep and at least 30 minutes before applying their contact lenses in the morning greatly helps with vision comfort during the day. Our optician recommends
Blink Intensive Tears eye drops.
Less comfortable lenses
If you find that you're able to wear your contact lenses for less hours during the day in autumn, make sure that you're observing the one day off a week rule. Wearing glasses once a week helps you to wear your contact lenses more comfortably, for longer, on every other week day.
Irritated or itchy eyes
Damp conditions, mould spores and falling leaves all take their tolls on sensitive immune systems. If you're suffering from Autumn hay fever, try using refreshing eye drops to soothe itchy and irritated eyes. Our optician recommends
Everclear eye drops for a refreshing and soothing effect. If your allergy symptoms are severe, speak to a doctor about prescription medication.
Fatigue, headaches and tired eyes
Digital eye strain is an all-year round problem now that the majority of UK adults spend more than 9 hours a day looking at digital devices. If you are suffering from sore or strained eyes this autumn, headaches or dry eyes, make sure that you follow the 20-20-20 rule when using devices; take 20 seconds to look at something 20 feet away every 20 minutes.
Boost your immunity with a healthy diet
All of us are more prone to flu and colds in the colder autumn weather, when there are less hours of vitamin D rich sunshine and damper, colder weather brings about post-summer blues. A healthy diet will help you keep autumn bugs at bay, and many healthy foods are also great for your vision, including courgettes, blueberries, cranberries and eggs.
