Gas-permeable (GP) solutions are exclusively for rigid lens wearers and are not suitable for soft lenses.
The main difference comes down to convenience versus disinfection strength. Multi-purpose solution combines cleaning, rinsing, disinfecting, and storing lenses into one simple product, ready to use straight away. Hydrogen peroxide solutions disinfect more thoroughly using a 3% formula, but they need a minimum six-hour neutralising period in a purpose-built case before lenses can go back in your eyes. Multi-purpose solution suits those after a fast, everyday routine, while hydrogen peroxide is often recommended for sensitive eyes or anyone prone to protein and lipid deposits.
Your contact lens solution needs replacing every single time you store your lenses; topping up old solution isn't safe. The routine is simple: empty the case, rinse with fresh solution, dry it face down, and refill before your next use. Multi-purpose solution should be used within 90 days of opening. And don't forget the case itself, replace it monthly to reduce the risk of contamination building up.
