With summer just around the corner, many of you will be heading off on holiday or, hopefully, enjoying the sun at home. Warmer weather usually calls for a different wardrobe and no look is complete without a strong pair of sunglasses. There are so many styles of shades out there that it can be tricky to decide what to choose, that's why we’ve put together a guide to the latest trends to help you choose the perfect frames for this season.

Women's sunglasses styles to look out for this summer

Aviators

It’s hard to go wrong with a pair of these classic shades. Ideal for a slightly bolder look, they often suit those with oval and heart shaped faces. However, there's such a big variety of designs that you're sure to find a pair of aviator frames for you, whatever your face shape. As a staple of Hollywood style these sunglasses add a touch of glamour to any outfit, as demonstrated by Gwyneth Paltrow here.

Keyhole

If you’re looking for a pair of frames to help you pull off a retro look, keyhole sunglasses are a great option. They take their name from the shape created by the bridge and lenses and come in all kinds of different forms, with round lenses and cat eye shapes proving among the most popular. We recommend trying a frame with a splash of colour for a fun and vibrant style that's perfect for summer.

Wayfarers are the epitome of effortless cool. They suit pretty much all face shapes with a vintage style that never goes out of date and are equally strong whether they’re your main sunglasses or a back-up pair. Recently, the trend for wayfarers has moved to chunky plastic in bright colours as a modern take on these timeless shades, as seen here on Kylie Jenner.

These kind of frames mix together features of other styles with a slight hint of steampunk chic for a unique pair of sunglasses. With a combination of chunky, plastic lenses with a metal bridge and arms, their distinct design will certainly help you to stand out from the crowd. Get an awesome, eye-catching look with a pair that features tortoiseshell patterns and flared corners.

Glamorous, oversized frames are a favourite of celebrities who don’t want to sacrifice style as they attempt to evade media attention. The angular shape of hexagonal lenses has come intro trend recently and has proved popular with those searching for a striking look. Go for gradient tinted lenses for that extra touch of opulence.

Cat eye

With flared corners and decorative edges, cat eye frames are the ultimate statement sunglasses. After first coming to prominence in the 50s, this shape always evokes memories of the glamourous leading ladies and style icons of that era. In recent years chunkier, patterned plastic has become popular for a more fun look inspired by the classic cat eye design.

Quirky shades with small, strikingly-shaped lenses were in trend in the 90s and have enjoyed somewhat of a revival this season. While coloured, round lenses with wire frames are the most common, there is a big variety of shapes and this is a style definitely for those who like to be a little more daring with their outfits.
